Startuptravels Manila Hub presents Bring Your Own Brand

I’ve been working with the Startuptravels team in Copenhagen for a month now, and I am very happy with our collaboration. My partner-in-crime and I were ambassadors of the month for May! Jeez, that was soooo warm to hear from them <3

The team has been amazing at hearing out our ideas as well… One of these is the event we’re hosting at O2 Space called BYOB —

BYOB: Bring Your Own Brand, a Startuptravels Manila Meetup will be held at O2 Space in Makati City on June 26/Friday, 6-8pm. We aim to bring together a group of entrepreneurs in Manila to meet, learn, and possibly collaborate with each other. With support from fellow startups, we hope that through these meetups we will be able to forge valuable connections with each other and foster an environment conducive for connecting others as well.

This event is generously brought to you by coworking space O2 Space, Design Studio DSS Creativo, local organic beverage brand Bayani Brew, local snacks Nipa Foods.

As of Tuesday morning, the tickets were all sold out! I was assaulted by waitlisting emails on a summer afternoon. It was indeed overwhelming, but we will make ways to meet you guys (if you still wanna meet us) after the event, that is!

If you’re up for drinks on the 26th, Friday night just around Makati, then register here, or sign up on Startuptravels so we can reach out to you!

Live To Feel Stories

All of us have stories to tell… and each story we can learn a lesson or two. If there is one thing I learned from living past quarter (yuck, I’m past quarter already okay). I for one particularly enjoy hearing other people’s stories – I love listening to them, I live for those stories because I think I look forward for my own unique experiences

NextAct ONE Festival by Bonifacio Arts Foundation and Globe

NextAct ONE Festival, the first mural-centric arts festival in the country

As we speak now, eight (8) artists are now tirelessly painting otherwise dull-looking walls around Bonifacio Global City. The Bonifacio Arts Foundation (BAFI) and Globe, launches ArtBGC NextAct ONE Festival – a weeklong mural festival featuring a mix of international and local artists painting across the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) district. ONE, will be the first arts and culture initiative of this size and scope in BGC and will be a transformative event in the development.

Their creations will come to life on the building walls of One Global Place, Bonifacio Technology Center, Icon Plaza, C1 Building Bonifacio High Street Central, The Palace Pool Club, all the way to the smaller facades of Bonifacio High Street.

Weekend + @MUNI_PH Meetup this Wednesday!!!

My weekends are better spent on coffee, meetings over coffee, and... you guessed right -- more coffee!

IMG_6932IMG_6933

If you’ve been playing SimCity BuildIt, you’ll get me on this. Who has Dr. Vu’s Lab already?IMG_6936

Luna Specialty Coffee is a lil hole smack right in NAC Tower along 32nd street in The Fort. I know you guys call it BGC nowadays but I’m really not feeling calling it that. So I’ll stick to Fort. There aren’t that much options in the menu, but it works. I love that the cold brew comes in a bottle (that might as well look like cough syrup. Cue: Young The Giant.) The Corned Beef Tapa was just alright too! I’d love it to be hash-y than tapa-y, but hey I just woke up at 2pm and I need nourishment. IMG_6934IMG_6935IMG_6937 IMG_6939I’ve been doing some freelance work with MUNI and we have a lot of great events coming up for ‘ya! I’ve pitched a few of my favorite things – and one is below – and another one is above! Sooooo excited to work with them and bring you meaningful events to connect with like-minded people. /plug —

QUICK PLUG! This Wednesday, we’re having three nomads tell their stories of travel and truth – Hannah Reyes of www.hannah.ph and Nat Geo Creatives, April Cuenca of  FlipTrip.ph, and Guido Sarreal of Kawil Tours. Hope you can drop by and hang with us as we talk about our favorite hobby, that is in this blog, T R A V E L I N G! Register here – I think there are still Eager Beaver tickets available (PhP 150), PhP 200 for walk-ins.

/endplug

IMG_6940IMG_6942

We have time to spare after our catch up, so the MUNI team headed towards the Satchmi Vinyl Day festivities at the BGC amphiteather – and boy was it fun! Got to hear Jensen and Tandem before heading on to our agenda for the night.

IMG_6946IMG_6948

But quick falafel run is always good, okIMG_6949

Our venue partner for the Travel and Truth meetup on Wednesday is Z Hostel at Don Pedro street in Makati! If you’ve been following my blog since I started traveling, you’d know I have a soft spot for hostels – and for cozy, good vibes-inducing ones at that. Right from the doorstep, Z will put an end to your hostility towards the common hostel, because it gives you good vibes. The roofdeck will be our rendezvous, and I am so ready to hear our nomad guests to tell their stories. Will I see you there?  IMG_6950IMG_6951Pun or not pun intended idk idk idkIMG_6956IMG_6957

Unwinding after a long day at Today x Future is always a good idea. It’s one of those places that I can call home and just go to and not feel alone. A lot has changed since I met Future but it still is that place where I go to randomly meet friends without ever texting or calling or vibering or tweeting anyone. Sucha good feels kinda place <3
IMG_6959It pains me to go home when I’ve gots lotsa things still to do but it’s all in a day’s work.

A little project with friends x impromptu drive to Intramuros x Muni Market Day on March 28!

A few weeks ago, I tagged along a couple of friends from Team Muni for a mini-project. Still getting permission if I can post the video here but It’s a short film to describe Manila as a creative hub. Between drinking coffee and taking safety shots, I also caught up with them and learned about their plans as well about Muni Market Day (after the jump!) Then a long-ish drive to Intramuros ensued. It’s been a while since I’ve been to this part of Manila. I actually forgot how to go to the walled city – though back in college I was always in this part of the capital *don’t ask hihi*. We also dropped by Manila Collectible – an all Filipino products curator in the corner of Cabildo and Beaterio streets, where we saw a both familiar and new local brands. #BuyLocal you guys 🙂

Gotta love spontaneous weekends!

Live to Feel!

IMG_6271

Few weeks back, I went to Eastwood to witness thousand of photos be posted around Eastwood City! I had mine, too (but failed to take a photo – there were literally so many of ’em). It’s #LiveToFeel – a movement to call everyone to live for your purpose. There were a lot of activities that day – ranging from silkscreen shirt-making by Team Manila to DJ sets and live surfing lessons from the Roxy girls! It was a fun time hanging out with everyone while you know, living to feel (I just had to :P)

Beach weekend!

IMG_5307.JPG

Had finally hit the beach! I mean, I know that it was raining (yet again!) the last weekend but I actually kebs everything and just went. What’s the worst that can happen, get stuck in the middle of the ocean? Haha been there, done that.

IMG_5300.JPG

IMG_5302.JPG

So off I went to a roadtrip with friends and also to go to Amped Up in Crystal Beach Resort! A couple of my friends will play there at night and we have surfing lessons and oh god we’re gonna sleep on tents! Y A A A A A A Y ! And there are US marines in the resort (I do not really know why but there they are.) I am so ready for afam!!!

So basically, I have no photos of what went down there. I ended up wasted and gad the sea was so relaxing so I just had to lounge and watch the beach and listen to the waves with a beer and cig in my hand. But there are pictures from the good guys at Bchbrk Productions c/o Chuckie, my new friend!

IMG_5313.JPGYes, last weekend was just all about love <3

IMG_5323.JPG

IMG_5327.JPG

I was not ready to give up my weekend so off I went to Teacher’s Village to see my friend Pat! Long overdue, this drinking date was… and it was my first time in like half a year to be back in the area since I moved out of QC. So much has changed, including this new Tomato Kick location at Malingap street.

IMG_5328.JPG

IMG_5326.JPGBut I don’t approve of this falafel sandwich. No, TK. No 🙁

IMG_5332.JPG

LIFE UPDATE: I’d like y’all to meet my new roomie! I moved places again, and now I’ll be living with Nica. So excited for more roomie things, okay?

IMG_5333.JPGI just love this. From Wrong Ramen.

IMG_5324.JPGAlso this, from Twitter.

IMG_5336.JPGGone all grunge barbie. In the office. And yes I still take elevator selfies even if there are other people.

MyDrunkKitchenxJonverWearing a bull cap a la My Harto 😛

And in line with this moving things, I got myself a copy of My Drunk Kitchen by Hannah Hart! I’m looking forward to reviewing this… and trying out Hannah’s crazy recipes… with wine, or beer, or anything that could buzz me up. Also, Youtuber love!!!

Live for the weekend, y’all!

Weekend Diary: HL x Uniqlo, Jessica Zafra x Ayala Museum, and Meeting Friends!

I think I’ve pretty much said everytime that I live for the weekends. Basically, it’s when I have time to do things for myself and meet friends and sleep more than I should. I also kind of splurge *gulp* because hey I endure 5 days working in the office and I think everyone deserves a rewarding weekend *wink*

IMG_5260.JPG

So I went around the mall last weekend to find myself a new belt. Now if you need to know something about me… sometimes I really don’t believe in the saying the more, the merrier. I tend to buy stuff one at a time. This means that I can’t justify to myself to buy two things that are essentially alike unless the other is worn out (this applies mainly for clothes, not food haha!) like this pair of Vans sneakers that I really need to replace – which leads me to that I am thrilled that Zalora carries a couple of cool Vans stuff! Time to shop, then eh?

IMG_5259.JPG

I know these are not photos of the belt (wait for me to justify ok, hahaha) but because it is hoodie weather in Manila, and practically all my hoodies are gone (idk really where they’ve been) so I fitted out some stuff over at my favorite brand Uniqlo. And oh god, they really do use the best fabrics. I can literally live inside them… and I might just break that rule of not buying the same shit because I want them all hoodies… in all colors!!!

IMG_5261.JPGWay back in college I used to always wear one

PLUS, I am so excited about their new collaboration with Austrian fashion house, Helmut Lang. Below are some of my favorites from the sneak peek:

helmut-lang-x-uniqlo-fallwinter-2014-collection-01-960x640 helmut-lang-x-uniqlo-fallwinter-2014-collection-03-960x640 helmut-lang-x-uniqlo-fallwinter-2014-collection-07-960x640 helmut-lang-x-uniqlo-fallwinter-2014-collection-09

Then I went to see Jessica Zafra again with friends! This time, her talk was about Game of Thrones, Fantasy and Science Fiction, and Geek Civilization. I really had tons of fun listening to her (well duh I can’t imagine what geek wouldn’t) and we were literally in the middle of legit geeks. I really tend to think that I am not geek enough so I call them legit. Plus, got to tour around Ayala Museum again. We need more museums here in Manila (with free entrance, that is!)

IMG_5262.JPGThe tita that I never had.

She has one more talk on October 4 where she will talk about another thing she likes the most: world domination! If you’re not familiar with Jessica Zafra, this is one topic she just won’t quit on. And there are a lot more interesting lectures happening in Ayala Museum so be sure to check them out!

IMG_5263.JPG

IMG_5264.JPGCollege trio: Jonver, Hanna, Ella

As always, I really love spending weekends with friends. If only I can push myself to be awake for more than 24 hours just to hang out with every one of them. I really miss them a lot! One day, I’ll be able to do that maybe. But until I have a stronger body, I’ll just try to meet them one weekend at a time.

IMG_5266.JPGNica just came back from Paris.

SIDE NOTE: I just joined this Instagram contest by Yardstrick and I really want to win (mainly because they’re giving away cool coffee stuff and coffee workshops so yes I want to win) You may click on the photo to like my post (idk if this counts but I guess it helps?)

IMG_5251.JPG

And I will shamelessly ask you too to follow me on Instagram!!

Three more days til the weekend and I just can’t wait anymore!

Weekend(s) Review!

So y’all know I love weekends. I’ve been busy (and was sick) so I couldn’t post what happened over the past few weekends.

IMG_5102.JPG

IMG_5100.JPG

One of the most memorable weekend of this year (of this life!) is the Saturday that I met Jessica Zafra. She has a series of talks in the Ayala Museum that will run every first Saturday of the month until October. Last August, she talked about why one shouldn’t be a writer. She’s the funniest!

IMG_5101.JPG

IMG_5108.JPG

And the most fun part is when I got a book signed by her!!! Oh god I’m so dorky in that photo I hate myself but oh look at Ms. Zafra!!!

10620111_817292514957996_4666217740683978286_oCatch her this Saturday for the second talk!

IMG_5120.JPG

IMG_5122.JPG

Also, weekends are mostly spent eating. God, I need to think about my weight and my health BUT OH MSG AND DELICIOUS LITTLE THINGS AKA DIMSUM. Two of my officemates and I tried Tim Ho Wan finally! The cheapest Michelin star restaurant was no doubt delicious but I don’t think I’m ready to fall in line for it everytime. How do you like Tim Ho Wan?

IMG_5119.JPG

IMG_5118.JPGWoowee dimsum!

IMG_5159.JPG

IMG_5140.JPG

Also, lately I’ve been needing of some much needed quiet (or the right white noise) so I am now bent into trying cafes like M Cafe! They do a pretty decent Americano save that I have to remind them to minus the sugar. But the place is quiet enough for me to work on things. Plus let me tell you the afams in the are aplenty!!! #Reasons

IMG_5141.JPGTablea cake is good!

IMG_5164.JPG

IMG_5169.JPG

Gad, this now looks like a food post rather a weekend post! Well because most weekends are spent meeting people that I don’t have a chance to see. So when my sister was about to take her board exam (I hope she passes with flying colors!) I took her and mom to Zao for a well-deserved dinner. I love the pho at Zao since they do their meat medium rare and I’m crazy about their fresh rolls!

IMG_5168.JPGPlus, their Viet iced coffee is superb!

IMG_5173.JPGAnd off to Future to meet some other friends on some Saturdays (when my body doesn’t feel so tired)

IMG_5176.JPG

To more weekends!
