NextAct ONE Festival by Bonifacio Arts Foundation and Globe

NextAct ONE Festival, the first mural-centric arts festival in the country

As we speak now, eight (8) artists are now tirelessly painting otherwise dull-looking walls around Bonifacio Global City. The Bonifacio Arts Foundation (BAFI) and Globe, launches ArtBGC NextAct ONE Festival – a weeklong mural festival featuring a mix of international and local artists painting across the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) district. ONE, will be the first arts and culture initiative of this size and scope in BGC and will be a transformative event in the development.

Their creations will come to life on the building walls of One Global Place, Bonifacio Technology Center, Icon Plaza, C1 Building Bonifacio High Street Central, The Palace Pool Club, all the way to the smaller facades of Bonifacio High Street.

“Globe is very excited to be part of this endeavor as part of our continuing The NextACT campaign. It is very fitting to collaborate with LeBasse Projects and BAFI as it breathes life to what ACT is all about – Art, Community and Technology. These three (3) elements are the anchor of the country’s first-ever mural-centric arts festival which brings together a community of artists and art communities here and abroad, and through technology and social media, we expect this Festival to reach the rest of the world and mark another milestone in art history,” said Joe Caliro, Head of Retail Transformation and Management at Globe.

Weekend + @MUNI_PH Meetup this Wednesday!!!

My weekends are better spent on coffee, meetings over coffee, and... you guessed right -- more coffee!

IMG_6932IMG_6933

If you’ve been playing SimCity BuildIt, you’ll get me on this. Who has Dr. Vu’s Lab already?IMG_6936

Luna Specialty Coffee is a lil hole smack right in NAC Tower along 32nd street in The Fort. I know you guys call it BGC nowadays but I’m really not feeling calling it that. So I’ll stick to Fort. There aren’t that much options in the menu, but it works. I love that the cold brew comes in a bottle (that might as well look like cough syrup. Cue: Young The Giant.) The Corned Beef Tapa was just alright too! I’d love it to be hash-y than tapa-y, but hey I just woke up at 2pm and I need nourishment. IMG_6934IMG_6935IMG_6937 IMG_6939I’ve been doing some freelance work with MUNI and we have a lot of great events coming up for ‘ya! I’ve pitched a few of my favorite things – and one is below – and another one is above! Sooooo excited to work with them and bring you meaningful events to connect with like-minded people. /plug —

QUICK PLUG! This Wednesday, we’re having three nomads tell their stories of travel and truth – Hannah Reyes of www.hannah.ph and Nat Geo Creatives, April Cuenca of  FlipTrip.ph, and Guido Sarreal of Kawil Tours. Hope you can drop by and hang with us as we talk about our favorite hobby, that is in this blog, T R A V E L I N G! Register here – I think there are still Eager Beaver tickets available (PhP 150), PhP 200 for walk-ins.

/endplug

We have time to spare after our catch up, so the MUNI team headed towards the Satchmi Vinyl Day festivities at the BGC amphiteather – and boy was it fun! Got to hear Jensen and Tandem before heading on to our agenda for the night.

But quick falafel run is always good, okIMG_6949

Our venue partner for the Travel and Truth meetup on Wednesday is Z Hostel at Don Pedro street in Makati! If you’ve been following my blog since I started traveling, you’d know I have a soft spot for hostels – and for cozy, good vibes-inducing ones at that. Right from the doorstep, Z will put an end to your hostility towards the common hostel, because it gives you good vibes. The roofdeck will be our rendezvous, and I am so ready to hear our nomad guests to tell their stories. Will I see you there?  IMG_6950IMG_6951Pun or not pun intended idk idk idkIMG_6956IMG_6957

Unwinding after a long day at Today x Future is always a good idea. It’s one of those places that I can call home and just go to and not feel alone. A lot has changed since I met Future but it still is that place where I go to randomly meet friends without ever texting or calling or vibering or tweeting anyone. Sucha good feels kinda place <3
IMG_6959It pains me to go home when I’ve gots lotsa things still to do but it’s all in a day’s work.

Why the Rurouni Kenshin film is important to me

The beginning is the end.

(I needed time to eat my feelings and to subjugate the urge to conclude each sentence in exclamation marks, so bear with me on this late reaction.)

I had a problematic childhood. I wasn’t one to relate to most kids – mainly because I didn’t go out, and simply because I was a weird kid (god, why I am.) So besides my only friend in high school, I had my anime to accompany me growing up. After school, I’d go home immediately as if I’d see more friends and hang out with them. Three years in grade school, and a whole lot of my high school revolved around anime. They kept me company; I never felt alone, and most importantly, I never felt weird around them.

That is why maybe I get so emotional about this film series, especially this is on top of my list, on any list I will ever have.

Albeit does not match the original manga/animé, the last installment to the Rurouni Kenshin live action film has no reason to hold back pride. The manga is now two decades old, almost half as old as Watsuki himself. It’s a sensitive story to mess with – with all the history and for kids like me – the investment of emotions.

Of course I have bias, that is my childhood in the big screen; I practically grew up with Kenshin, Kaoru, Sanosuke, Yahiko, Megumi, Misao and the rest of the gang. But this beautifully adapted film has made me inch to the edge of the cinema seat, despite scoffing every now and then for being seated beside ignorants who have no less laughed at how Soujiro suffered the loss to Battousai (honestly, the saddest scene in that movie, aside from Yumi dying the horrible death she had fallen,) among other seemingly laughing matter to them.

I have no words on how the production team has taken meticulous caution on each scene – from conveying the past, the present, the emotions, the political (rather more applicable in present day, surprisingly,) and of course — the action. Everything seemed to fall into place, even the variances from the original run – it felt like how it would when I used to religiously watch the series over and over again when I was a kid.

Rurouni Kenshin deserves a marathon – the three live action films, OVA 1 and 2, and the first animated movie. If you have the luxury of time, go for the animé itself and the manga as well.

Nobuhiro Watsuki’s work has been given justice. My childhood has been made proud. And gratified.

And consummated.

Oddly, I told myself after watching — I’m (kind of) ready to be an adult.

[Midweek Challenge] 90’s Bitches

It’s the midweek and god knows it’s TGIAF: Thank God It’s Almost Friday!

You can’t quite go out drinking/partying/dancing in the moonlight/whatever it is that you do but you’re in need of a good something. So hey, I went to my favorite music streaming service (hey y’all Spotify) and made a midweek playlist! I called it The Bitches just because. These power bitch tunes are my fuel at work when I need to shut everything off and focus. Mama knows she needs to grind and (t)werq ’cause she werqs hard for the money! I mean, I know it supposed to be relaxing and soothing and whatnot but my brain is aching for some 90’s girl power meets millenial bitches that matter.

Plus I need to imbibe that bitchiness because boys come in the weekends. H E L L O O O O O O !

So if some of the office peeps ’round are reading – yeah me gyrating on my desk is real.

And for good measure, let’s throw in Troye Sivan’s TRXYE (oh god my midweek is sounding so trippy good thanks to this bb)

JUST. BECAUSE. OKAY.

Quick update

I ama gravely sorry about the recent bugging down of this site my loyal one-two-maybe-three readers 🙁 Lately I’ve been experiencing problems with my host (huhu) and I’m delayed on a lot of posts. Haha, I like listening to myself when I say that I have a plan (lightbulb!) because it just sounds so nice.

So while it’s bugged down, (no worries though, I found out that the bug seems to be on the admin side and not on the reader’s. So yay you can read my other posts then) I’m catching up on my favorite Youtubers!! And Troye’s (HAHA first name basis) music video for Happy Little Pill is now out!

Spotify x Globe

I’ve been crazy gaga over Spotify the last few months! It has kept me company, productive, and most of all up-to-date with my favorite artists and up and coming acts. It has all the playlists I can ever think of — from working, walking, or even lull time music. No wonder, I subscribed to premium — which lets you download music on your Spotify so you can play it offline. That’s just so convenient!

Here’s a sample of what I’m currently loving:

Avicii x Coldplay

I don’t usually like EDM. I got nothing against it, just a preference. But this one’s different – with piano and Coldplay’s signature play of words and melody. Yes, this is on loop ’cause it’s just full of positivity.

A sky full of stars indeed.

* Preordered Coldplay’s newest album ‘Ghost Stories’ with my Gcash Amex because it’s just freakin’ cool — and if you’re on postpaid you can always have it directly charged to your bill. No hassle!
