#MovieVibes with Globe!

Currently omw to the movies now to watch the live action Attack on Titan with a friend. This is a much-needed break indeed and nothing more to relax with Titans tryna eat humans I know. Really glad that cinema houses here are showing it!! It means a lot for this animé kid.

Thanks to Globe for the schwag! Domo-kun approves~

Idk about you but I hate falling in line for anything. So when the gMovies app launched almost a year ago – it was such a breeze to book seats (of course with careful planning!!) Easily pay with your MasterCard or VISA and you’re free of worrying of running out of seats. Especially useful if you’re a busy dude tryna unwind after a long day. Don’t let the means destroy the end of a good movie.

Life according to the phone, pt.6

The city looks pretty! I can see the ONE Festival aftermath (oh god, it was a beautiful aftermath, I tell you!)

This one’s from FAILE. And the one below is from Kristin Farr —

THE NORTH REMEMBERS: I will always have a soft spot for Quezon City. So I went up to the north, at Maginhawa, to see Loreen, Kristian, and Thysz for something for Buzzfeed. You have to wait for it, of course hihihi.

Last weekend, I decided to go to Chessika’s first blog anniversary AND IT WAS HILARIOUS! I have known Chessika through a friend and we’ve been friends online BUT we have never seen each other until last week – and the girl is gayer than I’ve ever thought! Congrats for the first year, Chessika, and many more to come!

We played games – so we can tell people it’s fun – and Chessika coerced me asked me nicely let me be the gamemaster. AND BOY THE GAMES INCLUDED CHEERDANCES. Hahahaha, it was really fun. I had fun, like tons of it!

We had to retake the photo because her tarp self is not seen!!! Oh, Chessika!!!

And the night cannot get any gayer! Went to Eastwood to see the best friend and watch San Andreas – god it has a gorgeous cast!

It’s really rare that I am awake in the after hours of Saturdays, so I went back to Future to meet some more friends. Huhuhu, I really miss the mornings and the change is coming – I’ll tell y’all about it SOON!

The weekend is not complete too if I don’t see Nica! Spent the whole Sunday with her~

Huhuhu I also have to take that moment to acknowledge Cersei on the latest episode of Game of Thrones. JEEZ SHE REALLY HAD TO THAT????? Tommen you fool get up and take care of your momma! #maternal #estrogen

And before the week starts, I needed a good recovery with lots of green sriracha.

Huhu, can it be like 4 days weekend and not just 2?

NextAct ONE Festival by Bonifacio Arts Foundation and Globe

NextAct ONE Festival, the first mural-centric arts festival in the country

As we speak now, eight (8) artists are now tirelessly painting otherwise dull-looking walls around Bonifacio Global City. ONE, will be the first arts and culture initiative of this size and scope in BGC and will be a transformative event in the development.

Their creations will come to life on the building walls of One Global Place, Bonifacio Technology Center, Icon Plaza, C1 Building Bonifacio High Street Central, The Palace Pool Club, all the way to the smaller facades of Bonifacio High Street.

Is prepaid shopping the way to go in 2015?

Let’s be honest… the holidays might be over and you might have sworn to stop damaging your budget even more but the yearend sales, then come February it’s Valentines, and Summer sales, and it’s never ending. Personally, I’ve just been out of the red (oh good lord why is that shiny plastic looking straight at me) and it has been. one. expensive. year.

Good thing, there are optionz in life! Especially when that shiny little thing that you want costs way less when it’s coming from the halfway across the world. Using your credit card might not be the best friend you might think it is when you think of currency conversion and shit, on top of being in the red.

I thought, for the coming year, I really need to curb my spending habits. Raking up credit is not helping and I will no longer endure a year in debt. Being an adult sucks bigtime because you’re given all these opportunities but you really need to be responsible about ’em. It’s not like you can just save and save and not enjoy though. Like what my mom always tells me, spending within one’s means is a good skill to have.

When I discovered prepaid shopping, it was rather unappealing to me. First, you’re limited to your current funds, and second, transferring funds was a rather inconvenient chore. But with the goal of controlling this bad habit I am hurting to admit, it seems like a feasible plan! With a lot of prepaid credit cards in the market now (with minimal annual fee to boot), it sounded like a plan. But also these optionz are getting too many to bother yourself…

I particularly like Globe Blue and Gcash Amex because…

  1. Both are connected to my Gcash account, and subsequently my Globe postpaid line.
  2. Transferring is easy via the Gcash app, especially if with BPI.
  3. Globe Blue also serves like a preferred clientele card and has dedicated lanes at selected Globe stores.
  4. It’s easy shopping with US-based institutions like Amazon, Netflix, and the Playstation store because Gcash Amex also gives you an address in the US – meaning your card is eligible for use in geo-restricted e-commerce sites.
  5. You can also debit purchases (capped at PhP 500) from iTunes and the App Store (and Google Play!) directly to your postpaid bill.

2015 is fast approaching and you might be wondr’n why this is what I have to blog about. I was doing a lil bit of financial planning, and I thought I’d share what I have in mind. To be fair, I also use other prepaid cards. I have a couple hehe but I haven’t thought about them until now that I’m pretty serious about saving up.

Past few weekends and the holiday season, aka life according to my phone, Pt. 2

aka it has been lazy these past few weekends hahahaha

IMG_6136.JPG

The holidays are upon us… and god knows it has been lazy – from getting up and going out. The cold winds are beckoning you to hole up with a cup of eggnog hot cocoa/coffee/tea (whatever floats your boat) and endless TV and movies at home. But the holidays for me are for seeing old friends again. I haven’t seen this bunch in a while! And Maginhawa looks soooooooo different already… We ate at Indonyaki, that Indonesian place across where TK used to be at. Then almost naturally, we holed up in Moonleaf… like good ol’ times.

I am thanking this year for new friends! This year marked my first year in corporate and I haven’t thanked the Lord enough for the opportunities and the new people in my life. My team agreed to do Mystery Manila for team building and yeeeeeeah! Booyah bitches, we have conquered! Go drag the team, friends, or family here and have some fun guys!

  1. Guess what our team name is.
  2. I don’t like that we didn’t get first.
  3. Naturally and irl, I’m uber competitive.

Weekends are usually spent with my roommate and bae, Nica! When Cath Kidston opened in Fort, I already knew that Nica will be dying to see it… so off we went! However, we brought our EQs with us so we bought nada. Til next time then! We had dinner at The Wholesome Table in BGC Central. Food was awesome… I wish I know how to tell if something is organic, but I guess I just believed what was written in their menus. The fried chicken parmigiana was GLORIOUS, yeezus I wanna make that at home. Chug down with tamarind tea – I wanna learn how they made this, too!

IMG_6146.JPGIMG_6158Intermission: Postcrossing IS fun!!! I’ve been receiving postcards the whole month. This one’s from the USA!

Of course, Christmas parties are looming around the city and I had fun with the people from Globe and the Club 917 at the NBA Cafe – in line with their promos with NBA! They gave away an LG G3, a Samsung S5, and lots of Tattoo products and gift certificates. Thanks, Globe and HVMO, for this year… it has been a great partnership and I only look for more years working with you 🙂

And some weekends are just chilling with the fambam… I don’t see them often – I wish I could, but sometimes life has its way of hurling its big self on to you. Nevertheless, whenever I can and whenever there is an opportunity, I go see them. We may argue a lot, but I believe we love each other. Looking forward to spend a glorious 5-day Christmas break with them… oh god, the Davids really like Christmas… lounging around the house is never the same without my family!

This was earlier at Pino Restaurant at Malingap street in Teacher’s Village. Brought the fam bam here after Angel’s Oathtaking! Congrats for being licensed and shit, sister! Go forth and educate!

Happy Holidays everyone and all!

A year after Haiyan…

Typhoon Yolanda, known as Haiyan internationally, the strongest typhoon to hit the planet, had made land fall in the Philippines a year ago on this month. It has destroyed millions worth of properties and has taken a lot of lives. Those who survived has barely managed… if it weren’t for people, here in the Philippines and elsewhere in world, jumped in to help them. It helps restore faith in humanity as the whole world lent a helping hand to the survivors, something as a Filipino I am grateful for.

Project 1 Phone

A few weeks back, my blog partner Globe Telecom, reached out to me to participate in a photo shoot for Project 1 Phone. It’s an honor to be a part of this wonderful project and to work with such talented people!

Project 1 Phone, the country’s biggest mobile phone recycling campaign, has tapped global electronic waste recycling specialist TES-AMM.

TES-AMM combines state-of-the art technology with in-depth knowledge of environment and waste management techniques to provide reuse solutions and recovery of precious metals of end-of-life electronics such as computers, cell phones, peripherals, and TV sets.

All the units that Globe will collect through Project 1 Phone will be turned over to TES-AMM Philippines for proper recycling and recovery.

Through recycling, Globe’s Project 1 Phone hopes to do away with e-waste and lessen the harmful effects on the environment. Old cell phones and their batteries have toxic components such as arsenic, cadmium, lead and mercury as well as plastic parts that usually have brominated flame retardant. These chemicals can intoxicate the environment.

Your old phone can still do wonders even in the age of techy and trendy smartphones! They can turn classrooms into more conducive spaces of learning!

Project 1 Phone encourages people to donate their old phones to Globe Telecom, which will, in turn, contribute to the building of new schools in Aklan.

The old phones and devices that Globe will gather shall be turned over to TES-AMM, a leading electronics waste recycler which will take responsibility for at end-of-life products to ensure that they are managed responsibly.

#GlobeiPhone6

It’s the first day of November and I know we’re so ready because we all know that iPhone 6 is coming to the country! Yay!

Globe iPhone 6

And of course, where else better to get your shiny new iPhone but from our good friends at Globe. The it smartphone of the year is slated to land on Philippine shores Nov. 14 and you can pre-register for it, whether you’re a Globe subscriber or not at www.globe.com.ph/iphone6

Here’s a lowdown of the iPhone 6’s features via Mashable. Plus the latest and most advanced iOS Apple had. I am particularly thrilled of the Handoff feature!

And if you care about #BendGate, though I will highly question why you would, here’s a review from Mashable, too.

ALL GEARED UP FOR THE iPHONE 6? I am and I bet you are, too!

Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative

This contest has lapsed but I just want to highlight how this platform is a great avenue for young people like you and me who wants to change something. Besides, you can still be a member of this amazing organization and who knows they might open another grant competition and you might actually win.

It’ll help for you to check this out and see if you can connect with like-minded people in the community and discuss a potential project you can work on. It’s a great community for changemakers, and what better for changemakers to be at but with fellow people who wants to do something.

Full disclosure: I was a nursing graduate and we were limited to the activities and opportunities in the university given the amount of work our course requires. I am actually sad that I didn't spend my college years to undergo these experiences so if I can just get another shot at this, I'll be grateful. I hope you young people appreciate these kind of opportunities that are available to you. I think they will help shape you to become better citizens, not only of your nation, but of the world.

Shoutout to great teachers!

So first of all, I’d like to acknowledge my brother and sister who are both teachers – which in a larger scale, being honored as the National Teachers Month is about to end! (Sorry I am that oblivious haha) I am so proud of these two having finished their teaching degrees and now excelling in their chosen fields. I know that they will be great teachers just because. I believe in them.

Angel and Kevin

And of course, I’ll be a bit off course here (see what I did there) to greet the best teacher I’ve ever had a happy happy happy birthday — My mom <3

Mama

It goes without saying that teachers play an important role in our society. I have so much appreciation for all the good teachers I’ve ever met – who has ever challenged me to be better in whatever I do, who has ever told me that I can be better if I put my heart and mind to it. And that is inasmuch as I express utter disgust towards people who give teachers a bad name. I’m sorry, I have to put it out there, hahaha!

Anyway, our partner Globe is honoring 21 teachers — by involving students to post selfies with their noble teachers to nominate them! Students just have to use the #GlobeWonderfulTeacher and they can have a chance to win prepaid load for themselves and one of the 21 awards for their teacher! I have a list of teachers now to post with my selfie, but I’m no longer a student now, am I?
