In their new album, One Direction seems to be moving towards a more mature path. With the release of Story of My Life a few days ago, and the official video (above), from lyrics to musical treatment, to translation to a music video, to even the styling — all seems mature. Frankly, when did you see Niall sport that hair?
On a more fanboy-ish note, I just can’t believe they went this way. I love the wild, childish-ish (yes, double ish), and love crazy themes the first two albums had, but this one is refreshing – a more restrained and controlled version of the boys. This particular song, Story of My Life, has a particular folk treatment that it quickly reminds one of when Mumford and Sons released Babel. Gospel-ish, lots of strings, more organic, less synth. Less paty. More and more heart. One Direction is all ready to step up.
I cannot wait to listen to the whole album! Nov. 25 will be a special day, indeed for all Directioners around the world. Until then, we feast our hearts on Story of My Life.
Pre-order Midnight Memories here! Sorry I just had to :3
P.S. MORE AND MORE PROPS TO THE STYLING CREW. THE BOYS ARE EVER SO DAPPER! #ICAPSLOCKMOPARAINTENSE
